Shop Tip No 14

Is there anything that I can do to prevent my premium from increasing? There are many actions with little or no cost that can be done. Tip 14 – Theft by staff This is a highly sensitive topic and indeed most upsetting when discovered. On a positive note I will say that frequency of occurrence would appear low when compared with other theft incidents but I’m sorry to report that on the occasions that I have been advised of such incidents, the sums involved are alarming. Many if not most of you have had certain employees in whom you have placed enormous trust often over many years and I don’t under any circumstances want to suggest for a moment that this is wrong. I simply feel that it is important to be diligent to watch for unexplained shortages in your accounts. From an insurance perspective there are two issues and neither one is positive. In the first place, the amounts involved invariably exceed the Cash Sum Insured by a very considerable amount and in the second place, any successful claim must be reported within 7 days of the incident which pretty much eliminates any and every potential claim. Going into the detail of methods used by individuals would be inappropriate here, but feel free to contact me if you want any further information. There is one common factor and that is unexplained shortages, usually pointed out by accountants. Please be diligent – but please do everything reasonable not to endanger good relationships with staff. Always remember – call us to discuss any/every incident. We will advise and guide you.
