 These incidents are particularly nasty. Again their frequency has increased alarmingly and despite the fact that the amount stolen is frequently relatively small, the potential costs arising from claims for trauma genuinely suffered by both staff members and indeed innocent customers witnessing these events can be considerable.

 Have you trained your staff how to act and deal as best they can with this threat?

 In the first place all staff handling and with access to tills must be clearly instructed to maintain as small amounts in each till as is manageable placing excess amounts into the safe as frequently as is required to maintain no higher than this level.

More importantly all such staff members should be strictly instructed to co-operate with assailants and that they should do as instructed so as to avoid any danger to themselves their colleagues and indeed other innocent customers. This instruction should be given both verbally and in writing and staff members should be asked to sign a copy of the written instruction confirming that they have been trained and have clearly understood the instruction.
